Change Password
For security reasons it is recommended that 'passphrases' are used instead of passwords. A passphrase is a string of random words - much easier to remember than a password and infinitely harder to crack.
To create a passphrase, you need a unique, memorable and random phrase that is at least four words long. Five words or more is better and the words should be completely random.
To assist you creating in creating a random passphrase, we have included a passphrase generator. To use it, click the "Generate Passphrase" button until you find a passphrase that you like. You can edit and change the words as you wish before saving them. Any generated passphrases are suggestions only and are used by you entirely at your own discretion and risk.
If you choose to use a single word as a password, it should be at least 8 characters long, contain upper and lower case characters, a number and a special character.
Remember that whatever passphrase you choose, you'll have to type it at least once a day!

Your API Key
The API key is used to access the market data and metadata on the Monitor+ service. You can change the API key at any time. Changing the API key changes the key stored on the server.
Remember to change the key in all applications that also use the API key (as they may use a local copy).
These include in-house applications, XLerate for Excel and the Monitor+ 'R' or Python libraries.

Rate Limits
API rate limits control the number of requests a user can make to the API in a given time frame. They are designed to ensure fair use for all API users, to manage server loads, prevent abuse and maintain system stability and performance.
There are two rate limits that may be enabled. A 'burst' limit, setting the maximum number of requests in any one period and a 'daily' limit that sets a cap on the total number of requests in any 24 hour period. API token and account requests are not counted in any limits. Rate limits are reset at the end of each limit period.
Each dataset (time series) requested counts as one API point as do metadata requests. These limits may change to aid system stability and performance. Rate limits are set so they should never be triggered in normal use.
If a rate limit event occurs, you will receive an 429 error message explaining the cause and when the limit will be reset. If rate limits are causing problems then please get in touch to discuss the best solution for you.

Current Session Token
Session tokens are unique digital identifiers, used to communicate securely between the application and the Monitor+ server. They are server generated and are allow the server to know who your and what data you can access.
Session tokens allow for fast authentication in all data requests, are tied to your IP address, have a short life and automatically expire.

Login Settings
You can choose to 'remember' the values used in the account login window so they're visible when the window is displayed. We do not recommend that you choose to remember the password as an unattended system can be vulnerable to unauthorised access.
For security reasons you will still need to enter the password the first time you login for each session - even if you choose to remember the password.
We strongly recommend a commercial password manager as a more convenient and safer way to store and retrieve your login credentials.
